Sailing novelties 2021/22, what to discover at the Autumn shows

The year 2021 marks the return of the boat shows. Shipyards and boaters alike are eager to meet. Here are the new things you can discover at these back-to-school shows.

The autumn boat shows always mark the beginning of the commercial season. The shipyards exhibit the boats that will be sold the following spring. It is always the occasion to renew the ranges and to present the novelties to the boaters. These shows are therefore eagerly awaited. All the more so this year, 2021, when they are back after an absence of two years. Whether in Cannes at the beginning of September or in La Rochelle at the end of September, visitors will be able to discover the next sailing boats.

We have gathered here the novelties announced by the manufacturers in the monohull category. We present them to you briefly while waiting to visit them for you in the shows and to come back to them in more detail.

Kaori 550 - 5,50 m

The Kaori concept shipyard, in the person of the manufacturer Flavien Gaulard finished his Kaori 550. This dayboat with the scow bow is designed by Glidas Plessis. It is ecofabricated with a linen fiber and wood resulting from French exploitations. Made in striplanking, this sailboat has a varnished wood finish inside. If the boat is imagined to sail, a rowing system also allows to consider rowing.

Bihan 5.80 - 5.80 m

Designed by the Finot-Conq firm (already the author of the very nice big brother, the Bihan 6.50), the Bihan 5.80, announced for less than 35,000 euros, represents the very concept of the dayboat: powerful and elegant. This sailboat, which has a lifting keel, has a small shelter to store the day's affairs. Rigged in houari (which brings elegance and facilitates the matting), this light hull is likely to offer great sensations to its owner.

Dufour 32 - 10.31 m

We should not be disappointed when a shipyard proposes a new 10 m. Indeed, in this field, profitability is not easy to find and shipyards do not often venture into this area. The Dufour 32 comes with a few innovative solutions, such as an inflatable rear platform that closes off the cockpit when sailing and offers a nice bathing platform at anchor. Also noteworthy is the choice of a tiller that frees up a lot of space in the cockpit.

Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 380 - 11.22 m

Still designed by in-house architect Marc Lombard, the Sun Odyssey 380 takes up the concept of "sloping" gangways that allow you to move around the yacht without ever encountering a step. To save space in the forward cabin, the double berth is also moved to starboard, enlarging the head. At the rear, there are one or two double cabins, depending on the layout chosen.

Alubat Ovni 370 - 11,95 m

This is the little brother of the Ovni 400. Still designed by Mortain-Mavrikios, this sailboat has very vertical sides to increase the living space and to offer a stability of form when the boat is wedged on its bilge. As a proof of modernity, the bow is reversed offering a more aggressive character to this sailboat intended above all for long distance cruising.

Arcona 385 - 11.28 m

Made in Sweden, the Arcona stands out for its quality of construction. The teak woodwork and the quality of the assemblies make this a top-of-the-line sailboat. This 38-foot (11.28 m) is as easy to handle as it is powerful. It keeps the qualities of its ancestor, the Arcona 380, but brings modernity and space for a family crew.

J/45 - 13.85 m

With this sailboat, J Composite wanted to combine the best of two worlds. That of the regatta with a light and powerful boat built entirely in infusion, but especially a comfortable sailboat which offers all the qualities to sail in family in cruise. If cruiser/racer boats still existed (as they did in the 70s and 80s), the J/45 would be the spearhead..

Hanse 460 - 13.87 m

Change of architect at Hanse. For this new range, the German shipyard called on the Berret-Racoupeau firm, which proposes a very wide hull to offer more stiffness, but also more habitability. Contest 50CS - 15.46 m

Faithful to the tradition, and in the heart of its target clientele, the Contest 50CS keeps the DNA of the shipyard. A very comfortable, very livable yacht, designed for a reduced crew. Indeed, this 50 feet offers only 2 - huge ! - cabins. As far as weight is concerned, this yacht still displaces 21.5 tons with a draft of only 2.35 m. For the maneuvering, everything comes back in front of the 2 steering wheels, with even a central console which will be very ergonomic.
