Business tycoon Dmitri Rybolovlev, chairman of AS Monaco, has acquired the first ClubSwan 125 sailing superyacht, a 43-meter-long racing yacht, at an estimated cost of $20 million. According to a source close to the billionaire, it took four years to build this new giant of the seas. A logical acquisition, which is part of the billionaire's passion for water sports. "No other sport gives you such a feeling of freedom and emotional rush," says Dmitri Rybolovlev.

A jewel of technology

Designed by ClubSwan Yachts, the high performance division of Nautor's Swan Group, the Club Swan 125 outperforms all of its already renowned predecessors. After the ClubSwan 36 and its 20 units sold, the Club Swan 50 and its 27 models acquired and the very recent ClubSwan 80, ClubSwan Yachts breaks a new record. The goal of the owner of the very first model to leave the factory, Dmitri Rybolovlev, was "to create a high-performance superyacht capable of breaking records," said Nautor's Swan in a statement. Mission a priori successful, reading the technical data sheet. Built according to DNV GL - 1A Yacht Sail standards, the hull, deck and part of the ship's parts are designed in carbon fiber, ensuring the yacht's incomparable lightness and, logically, a high speed capacity.

The team in charge of the ClubSwan 125, piloted by Dmitri Rybolovlev, will take the name of Skorpios, recalling the Greek island bought by the billionaire to turn it into a luxury hotel complex. The team already has an impressive track record. Its skipper is Fernando Echavarri, Olympic champion at the Beijing Games, double world champion in 2005 and 2007 and winner of the 2005 International Sailing Federation's best yachtsman of the year award. Still young, the Skorpios team, in which Dmitri Rybolovlev is helmsman, has already left its mark on water sports, winning the world title in Palma de Mallorca in 2019 in the ClubSwan 50 category and, in 2020, taking a fine third place at the World Championships in Scarlino, Italy. Never before in history has a team reached the podium two years in a row.

Several events already await the Skorpios team. The first of them is the Rolex Fastnet Race, which will be a test phase and acculturation of the new yacht. But it is in October 2021 that the Skorpios team will really enter the heart of the matter with the Middle Sea Race. It will therefore be necessary to wait a few months before really seeing the operational capabilities of the Skorpios.
