Exclusive / Astus 22.5, a new folding trimaran designed by VPLP

Astus renews its range and announces the 22.5. A transportable trimaran ideal for a family that will be able to quickly reach the open sea in complete safety. For this sailboat designed by VPLP, Astuts even imagines equipping it with foils

Emblematic model, the Astus 20 was the first folding trimaran that launched the start of the shipyard in 2003. Since then, the renewal of the yachts has been very regular with the appearance of the signature of the VPLP architectural firm for the last 5 years. After the 16.5 and then the 20.5 (launched in 2018 and already produced no less than 60 units!), it is now the Astus 22.5 that is announced.

The Astus 22.5 is to replace the Astus 22 and the Astus 24 . This 6.90 m trimaran offers the same volume of float as the 24 (1150 liters) which allows to carry more canvas than the 22 (21 m2 of mainsail and 9 m2 of jib) without risk of getting stuck in the water. Like all the range, this boat will be equipped with a rudder and a tilting daggerboard, which allows to sail close to the hulls and to run aground without risk.

As far as habitability is concerned, a redan on the central hull offers nice sleeping places. This 22.5 is designed to accommodate 4 adult berths. The height under Barros has been worked on so that we can sit down.

For fun (and performance), Astus plans to equip the floats with curved daggerboards (which the shipyard calls foils). These planes will be there to relieve the floats and gain in performance without making the trimaran "fly" since the central hull must not leave the water.

This new 22.5 remains in the line of the shipyard with a transportable model (2,53 m once the trimaran is folded with its telescopic arms), light (650 kg light), powerful (with its VPLP hull) and livable (4 beds of 0,5 x 2 m) and even comfortable (options kitchen with stove, chemical WC, electricity...).

The molds are currently being made at the shipyard and the first model is scheduled to sail in June 2021. If you are interested in adventure, you can expect to pay 49,800 euros TTC (basic version with sails, but without trailer) to go sailing with the new Astus 22.5. The version with foils is not yet priced.
