An evolution towards ocean racing
The Django 8S is an evolution of the Django 770 for offshore racing. This 8.01 m long sailboat has the same hull as its cruising counterpart. It is also built in infusion with sandwich bulkheads and monolithic hull bottom.
On this model, the skirt and the dolphin are included as standard, which allows it to exceed 8.50 m in overall length. Validated by the UNCL to participate in transatlantic races - like the Transquadra - the Django 8S is of course homologated in category A (with integrated unsinkability).
Equipment for the regatta
It is equipped as standard with a carbon mast, a mainsail with horn and a fixed keel with a 2 m draft, making it a pure racing boat. The rudders are also longer and tapered than on the 770, as this boat is not designed to run aground. It receives a 14 hp inboard engine, essential for offshore racing.
The deck plan has been designed to accommodate the headsails and offers a large, open cockpit with no benches, as on the Django 7.70. The life support is directly integrated into the deck plan, in the bottom of the cockpit.
With a taller mast and a lighter boat, the Django 8S performs well even in light winds. Having not yet been able to participate in races due to the global health context, the Django 8S should participate in the next Transquadra; the shipyard is still working on improving the performance for the rating. The Django 8S is also among the contenders for the offshore racing event (whose existence is under discussion) of the 2024 Olympic Games.
A simple layout
Inside, the layout is simple, but also suitable for cruising. There is a Breton bed in the bow, two benches in the saloon and a small table with a stove on the starboard side and a chart table on the port side. Finally, the rear offers a bed on port side and a technical area on starboard.
The Django 8S - of which 3 boats have already been built - is a fun, high-performance boat designed for both racing and family fun.
