The new ClubSwan will be 80 feet tall, a maximum to run on equal footing

Juan Kouyoumdjian is designing the new ClubSwan 80, the next 24.70m one-design which should be lined up for rich owners' regattas.

launched in 2002 with the Swan 45, the yard has introduced one-design races, the One design circuit reserved for ClubSwan. Today the circuit offers racing on ClubSwan 36 (a one-design with hydrofoils) and ClubSwan 50. The circuit works very well with a world championship for owners who must be at the helm of their boat to participate. A bit like in the old regattas when rich owners used to steer their beautiful yachts.

This time, with the ClubSwan 80, the shipyard wants to open up the maxi market. Still designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian (like the other models in the range), this yacht will be very powerful with a pendulum keel and a duck in front that can be steered. Behind it is a twin rudder as on the IMOCA boats.

Built at Persico in Italy (the shipyard that makes the Volvo 65 or Luna Rossa for the America's Cup), this little all-carbon bomb will be delivered in a regatta version, i.e. the best possible performance. The only options, notably for comfort, will in no way improve performance, but rather degrade it by making the boat heavier. The minimalist interior remains elegant with all the same comfort and the possibility of accommodating the crew, especially for the crewing.

This unit intended for inshore regattas (it is not an off-shore sailboat) has been designed to perform well in light to medium winds. It is easy to imagine this type of unit racing in Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez or another race on the Mediterranean circuit.

Creating a one-design in this size of sailboat has never been done before. It is also the ease of understanding the race (the first to arrive is the one who won) that should encourage the deployment of the class.

Hull number 001 is under construction today and the goal is to have 3 ClubSwan 80 at the Rolex Maxi Worlds in Porto-Cervo in 2022.
