Leopard 42, a catamaran designed with the 25 years of experience of the shipyard

Building on nearly 25 years of product evolution, Leopard Catamarans, in partnership with the design teams at Robertson & Caine and Simonis & Voogd Yacht Design, has officially launched the latest addition to its sailing yacht range, the new Leopard 42.

Even if it replaces it in the range, the Leopard 42 isn't just a simple replacement for the highly successful Leopard 40. It is a much more spacious yacht, with better finishes, a better defined exterior, an additional relaxation area and larger, more comfortable, brighter and more private cabins! All this while respecting what has made Leopard a success: comfort and performance without compromise. It complements the Leopard 45 a catamaran whose new version is gaining improvements.

Resolutely modern lines

On the Leopard 42, the emphasis has been on the exterior style, which has evolved by applying the modern design of the Leopard 50 (voted boat of the year 2019), which features continuous side windows along the hull and a one-piece hardtop roof in contrast to the windows. Her look has been further refined by the stepped hulls, which end with a straight bow.

The interior design of the Leopard 42 has adopted the style that was developed for the Leopard 53 Powercat (elected Multihull of the Year 2020). With strong contrasts, indirect lighting and meticulous finishes, the Leopard 42 brings more luxury and elegance to the Leopard sailing yacht range.

Sunbathing on the deckhouse

The addition of a lounge area near the helm station is a considerable difference between the Leopard 42 and any catamaran under 45 feet. This outdoor lounge offers an additional 5 square meters of space dedicated to relaxation, increasing the total outdoor area by 65%. This lounge area is the place to be at anchor, with an L-shaped seat and upholstered backrest, as well as a fixed composite table. A space that integrates with the design without adding too much weight.

Controlled on-board traffic

Access to the saloon is a revolutionary feature for the Leopard fleet. A comfortable staircase on the port side of the aft cockpit takes you there, without encroaching on the headroom of the aft cockpit or interfering with the helm layout. The steps are located on the inside of the roof so that they do not interfere with the exterior appearance and leave an unobstructed view of the interior of the aft cockpit.

The fully protected helm station is always raised and located to starboard - as in all Leopard catamarans. All manoeuvres also return to the helm station to allow single-handed sailing. The captain has a direct view of the lounge, the aft cockpit, the bows and skirts, and the mainsail.

Access to the front through a door in the saloon

Inside, natural light enters through the skylight and 360-degree glazing. The forward-facing sofa at the stern provides direct communication with the U-shaped, forward-facing galley, now found on all yacht models. Also unique for a catamaran of this size, the Leopard 42 offers a watertight front access door for better ventilation, easy circulation and exceptional forward visibility. An innovation first introduced by Leopard catamarans and which has been part of its DNA ever since.

Island bed in all cabins

All cabin beds (fore/aft) are accessible from both sides, but are wider than on the Leopard 40. In addition to the larger beds, the floor area has increased by 35% in the guest cabins and by 30% in the owner's cabin.

To achieve a greater sense of space in the cabins, an effort was made to maximise natural light by using continuous glazing along the hull, adding portholes where space permitted and maximising their height. As a result, the interior hull of the Leopard 42 has twice the glazed area of the Leopard 40!

All cabins aboard the Leopard 42 have their own bathroom. This is a significant improvement over the Leopard 40, where the two guest cabins shared a central washroom. Although this is a considerable improvement, the most significant achievement is that both guest cabins have their own shower area, a feature not currently found on catamarans of this size.

Catamarans designed for the open sea

In terms of performance, stepped hulls and powerful rigging ensure optimum performance in all wind conditions. Moreover, the hull design of modern cruising catamarans is as complex as the requirements are stringent. The innovative design of the internal structure of the Leopard 42 makes it a solid offshore sailing yacht, capable of sailing all the seas of the globe, while having a beautiful open plan with large windows all around and doors opening aft and forward.

The new Leopard 42 is imbued with the brand's unique DNA, with many of the technologies and construction techniques used to make it a spacious, comfortable and high-performance ocean-going catamaran; advantages previously only found on much larger models.
