Due to the health crisis, many nautical events such as the Massilia Cup and SNIM 2020 had to be postponed. The two main sailing clubs of the old port have decided to join forces to organise a new gathering, Marseille Horizon 2024, which will take place from 18th to 20th September 2020.

Organised following the postponement of the Massilia Cup and the SNIM (Semaine Nautique Internationale de la Méditerranée) to 2021, this regatta will bring together 120 boats, mixing crews, duos, solos, specialists and amateurs. Organized jointly by the Cercle Nautique et Touristique du Lacydon and the Société Nautique de Marseille , this new sporting event will be sponsored by François Jambou, winner of the Mini Transat La Boulangère 2019 and Lili Sebesi, member of the French team in 49er FX ( editor's note : class of monohull sailboat rather light). François Jambou will be taking part in the race as a crew member and the godmother, Lili Sebesi, will be sailing aboard the A35 des Minots de la Nautique.

This regatta is open to IRC solo, IRC double, IRC crewed, OSIRIS, Monotypes, J70, Grand Surprise and Sportboats. The course of the race will be decided the same day, depending on the weather conditions. Departures and arrivals will take place either in the northern or southern harbor of Marseille, depending on the boat classes. The programme promises to be very intense. The organisers are making no secret of the fact that getting everyone to sail as much as possible is surely the solution to make the absence of festivities on land as acceptable as possible and to guarantee the success of this new type of regatta.

Ashore: responsible conviviality

Large gatherings, hugs and crew parties are out of fashion. This is the basis for the social distancing imposed by the measures in force, and a change of habit for future sporting events. Faced with this reality, the organisers of MH2024 have sought as many answers as possible in order to avoid groupings and areas where large numbers of people have to pass through. From the confirmation of registrations, limited to one crew member per boat, to the prize-giving ceremony, reduced to the first three in the ranking, to the physical distance from the official notice boards for each class: the whole process of the participants has been studied in this way. The wearing of masks, provided by the organisation at the time of registration, is also compulsory as soon as the crew members disembark, i.e. also on the pontoons.
