The first day of the 59th edition of the Semaine Nautique Internationale de la Méditerranée (Snim) took place in idyllic conditions. In the IRC 0-1-2-3 class, competitors set off on the main race, a long coastal course, the longest of which covered some 50 miles. In the IRC 4 and one-design classes, two races were held on the Olympic waters.

The start of the big race was given in winds of 15 to 18 knots under a radiant sun, with an easterly shift at the end of the day, allowing an almost entirely downwind course between Marseille and Sanary or La Ciotat, depending on the category. Ideal conditions for any sailor!

In the IRC 0-1 category, the Italian Ker 46 Lisa R, based in Genoa, took the lead at the start of the race, before the TP 52s came back into the wind rotation. After a long return leg, Lisa R maintained her position at the head of the fleet, finishing with only a small loss in the harbor of Marseilles.âeuros

In IRC 2, the First 40 Racing Seven Mani, with Kito de Pavant on board, led the fleet for most of the course, before encountering technical problems on the return leg, losing first place to Sloughi, a First 40 also from Palavas.

The A35 Asaca La Nautique, with a mixed crew, sailed nimbly, making multiple headsail changes. Under Code 0, on the approach to île Verte, a well-negotiated tack gained several places, illustrating the importance of precise maneuvers.âeuros

A homogeneous Duo fleet

In the Duo group, five JPK 10.10s sailed in close contact, offering almost one-design competition. The JPK Telemaque 2 anticipated a site effect generated by Mont Rose, sending out the A5 for a few minutes, which enabled it to overtake two competitors and finish in second place.âeuros

On Saturday, an easterly wind gusting to over 40 knots led the race committee, in agreement with the racers, to suspend the regattas for the day, in order to preserve the safety of sailors and boats. Regattas resumed on Sunday in more clement conditions.âeuros

The importance of volunteers in organizing such and such an event

A team of 40 volunteers on the water and 21 ashore ensured the smooth running of the event, managing anchorages, arrivals, welcoming regatta guests, preparing meals and hosting evening events, demonstrating the importance of volunteer involvement in the organization of the Snim.âeuros
