Point of view / The new identity of the Vendée Globe 2020 against gîte!

The visual of the poster for the Vendée Globe 2020 has just been presented. It must include the elements that make up the essence of the race. All but that of being a good sailor

2020 will be the year of the Vendée Globe. With a record participation announced thanks to the 34 places available, there is no doubt that this Vendée Globe will make people talk about it. Departure scheduled for November 8, 2020 from Les Sables-d'Olonne.

11 months before the start, the organisation presents us with the poster for this next major event. A poster which, according to the attached press release, must "evoke the identity elements of the event".

So we understand the choice of the skipper alone on the bow (it's a solo race), the sailboat sailing on a round sea (they'll sail around the world), a red and white sailboat (the colours of the Vendée), and above all a sailboat equipped with a foil (this is the trend for all the new IMOCA models).

Affiche

Now we are left hungry when such a prestigious sailing event, certainly intended for the general public to follow, lacks the same rigour to design a sailboat. Everyone will quickly notice that the boat is sailing on starboard tack (given the way the sails are inflated) and that it is listing on the wrong side. Not to mention the starboard foil which has disappeared masterfully (perhaps a tribute to Hugo Boss who made almost all the way through the previous edition with one Foil missing?).

Undoubtedly that the decision-makers of the Vendée department, owners of the race, wanted to make a humorous wink here to the sailors, showing that the IMOCAs are super boats capable of sailing on a single foil with a counter list? Unless they're playing the Seven Mistakes game?
