The Swift RL (for Reactive Lighting) is a compact front end in which lighting and battery are combined in a single unit. Runners do not like this assembly, because all the weight is on the front of the forehead. For us sailors, it is not embarrassing and on the contrary easy to install the lamp. Concerning the humidity this lamp is IPX4, so it will not be able to go underwater, but will be largely waterproof enough for the deck of our boats.
Automatic power adjustment
This headlamp is equipped with the Reactive Lighting system invented by Petzl. It is a sensor on the front of the lamp that varies the light intensity according to the return of light. If you read a book, it will reflect a strong light, the headlamp will then lower the intensity. If you illuminate your bow, the light intensity will be the strongest, because the return radius will be very small. This system has 2 advantages, it reduces visual fatigue and increases battery life.
All functions with 1 button
Three types of lighting can be chosen (economical, standard or maxi) for ranges from 12 to 110 m or Reactive Lighting mode with ranges from 35 to 150 m. The various functions are accessible with a single button on the top of the lamp. A locking of the button prevents unintentional switching on' especially when the lamp is stored at the bottom of its bag.
A rechargeable battery
The Swift RL is equipped with a rechargeable battery. No more batteries! Plug the front end into a USB socket to recharge the 2350 mAh LithiumIon battery. A charge indicator shows the battery status (5 levels). The full recharge lasts 6 hours. The autonomy depends on the lighting mode and the intensity chosen. It ranges from 2 hours for the highest power to more than 100 hours for the lowest power. Allow an autonomy of about 30 hours in Reactive Lighting mode.
Distributed by Navicom for the Navy, the Petzl Swift RL is available in 3 colours (black, orange or blue) for 100 euros.
