In 1999, Patrice de Colmont, creator of Nioulargue - a week of regattas organized in Saint-Tropez between 1981 and 1995 - subsequently launched the Sails of Saint-Tropez . Since then, every year, the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez has organised the event for beautiful yachting.
From 28 September to 6 October 2019, 300 boats - Classic and Modern - and more than 4,000 sailors will sail in the Var Bay in a spirit of sharing and conviviality.
A redesigned village
To push the maritime logic, the village of Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez has been transformed into a galleon. 2700 m2 of frames, masts and woodwork spread over several floors will welcome 23 exhibitors.
Prestigious trophies
Each group of boats has its own trophy. Thus, the Wally will compete on the BMW Trophy while the IRCA superyachts over 27 m will race on the Loro Piana Trophy. As for classic yachts, it is the Marconi B Era class - sailing yachts between 15 and 17 m - that has been selected this year to support the Rolex Trophy. There will be 18 of them running this year.
5 IRC classes will allow boaters in this category to complete their Mediterranean sport season, while 6 groups will allow classic sailboats to compete on equal terms according to their respective rigging.
Centenarians on the "Sails"
Alongside Ester (1901 Mellgren plans), who arrived on the circuit this year, we will find Sumurun, a 1914 Fife plan. This 35-metre Yawl Marconi is one of the last large cruising yachts still in the water designed by Fife. It has been restored for two years at the Guip shipyard in Brest and will sail for the first time in the race for Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez.
Black Swan - 34 m Nicholson plan - a 120-year-old gold-rigged ketch will make its first appearance in the bay of Saint-Tropez.
