Monaco Classic Week

Here are the races and regattas from the weekend of September 14 to 15, 2019.

Monaco Classic Week (11-15 September)

The 14th edition of the Monaco Classic Week ended on Sunday 15 September. Organised every two years since 1994 by the Monaco Yacht Club, it brings together yachting enthusiasts. Classic yachts and motorboats - a total of more than 100 classic units, sail and motor, including an exceptional fleet of 7 huge schooners from the International Schooner Association - were brought together in the YCM Marina.

The schooner Puritan (1930) won the Monaco Classic Week Trophy, which rewards the most elegant and best restored unit. The 2019 winner of the Restoration Award is rightly attributed to Ester, the miraculous little Swedish auric cutter who has returned to the water after 75 years at a depth of 52 metres.

GC32 Riva Cup 2019 (September 11-15)

It was a merciless battle between Alinghi's Swiss crew and its direct rival Oman Air in perfect conditions ahead of Fraglia Vela Riva with a 14-16 knot southerly wind from Ora.

While the first one led the score, the Omanis won three consecutive victories, coming back to a tie. But that wasn't counting the Red Bull Sailing Team who won the last two races of the day.

After the GC32 World Championship in Lagos, Portugal, in June, Alinghi is the winner of the 2019 GC32 Riva Cup.

Sailing Tour of Brittany (September 7-14)

This weekend ended the 2019 Tour of Brittany, which brought together 37 pairs. After a 26-mile race between Larmor Plage and La Trinité-sur-Mer, won by Miguel Danet and Eric Péron (L'Egoïste), followed by the prologue winners the Brittany duo CMB Performance (Loïs Berrehar/Corentin Horeau) and NF Habitat (Corentin Douguet/Christian Ponthieu), the overall ranking remains unchanged.

Alexis Loison and Frédéric Duthil (Normandy Region) won ahead of Gildas Mahé/Morgan Lagravière (Breizh Cola/EquiThé) and Martin Le Pape/Pierre Quiroga (Skipper Macif).

World Freediving Championships (September 2-15)

The AIDA World Freediving Championships were held in Villefranche-sur-Mer. For the third time in his career, Morgan Bourc'his has won the title of world champion in the apnea category constant weight without fins. It has reached an unprecedented depth of 91 m.
