In consultation with the riders and the Figaro Bénéteau class, the Douarnenez Courses team has decided to create an alternative race to the Douarnenez Horta Solo. Finally, the skippers will head for Gijon, on the North Coast of Spain, from the Finisterian city, after passing through the Fastnet lighthouse.
If this course does not offer the thrill of the open sea, it will allow the figarists to continue to apprehend their new mount.
"Between Douarnenez and the Azores, it takes a week at sea. Halfway through, we're three days from the first shelter. And many riders felt that it was premature to send the new one-design boats on an offshore course of this type. The objective being to gather a platform worthy of the French Championship, the organization preferred to propose this alternative solution" explains the organizer.
This new configuration will also give the skippers more time as the programme foresees a departure on Sunday August 4th for an expected arrival in Gijón from August 7th. The return leg would leave on August 11 or 12 to again, remove the Fastnet before returning to Douarnenez.
An uncertain participation
With this adaptation of the course, the organisation hopes to see at least twenty competitors compete. This event remains the 2nd most important after the Solitaire Urgo Le Figaro - won by Yoann Richomme - to collect points for the Solitaire French Championship.
