Web series / Yves Le Blevec - Web series #3 Les métiers de la course au large

The Actual leader team introduces us to the underside of a giant trimaran shipyard through a web-series. In this third part, Yves Le Blevec presents the site, the essential work tool for the team that worked on the Ultim Actual Leader.

A colossal project

There are only 6 Ultims in the world, these boats defy the common sense of measurement. Whether on water or on land, excess is an Ultim pleonasm.

By acquiring the former Sodebo, Team Actual leader had to repair the damage to the Route du Rhum 2018 and then put the giant trimaran in the colours of Yves Le Blevec's sponsor.

To work well, you have to organize yourself: workshops in containers

In this site, which has literally been organised under the giant trimaran, the team has 4 fitted and specialised containers.

One is dedicated to mechanics in general, it is also the tool shop.

The following one is intended for the storage of composite materials such as carbon fibre rolls, fillers to densify glues and epoxy resins. As it is insulated, some small composite parts are manufactured there.

Another container is an electronics workshop as we saw in the previous episode of the web-series.

And finally, the last one is the seamanship workshop, where all the textile maneuvers required for such a boat are made.

To do clean work, you need a clean workshop

A composite painting and repair site on a giant trimaran inevitably generates considerable amounts of dust. They are as much environmental pollution as they are obstacles to the quality of work.

Yves Le Blevec, skipper and site manager is as passionate as he is pragmatic. He explains that he seeks to preserve the working environment and shows us how he implements effective means to avoid dumping waste production into the environment: collection and recycling.

And to do a job that is specific from every point of view, each member of the team, each trade has a site with state-of-the-art equipment.

Under the boat, in the centre of the yard, there is a kind of giant vacuum cleaner. 2 m high and 1 m wide, it spreads its suction tentacles across the site to the work areas. And indeed during our visit we were really impressed by the cleanliness of the environment.
