Monte-Carlo The Original, the return of a mythical brand

The 27 feet of Monte-Carlo the Original

The Monte-Carlo Offshorers were launched in 1983 at the initiative of Offshore world champion Gianfranco Rossi. These dayboats built in Italy were characterized by their step hull which ensured them a superb passage at sea. In 2019, the brand is making a comeback with two new 27-foot models.

The first step dayboats

In 1983, Gianfranco Rossi, Offshore world champion, built the first Monte-Carlo Offshorer model and launched the brand at the same time. Don't be fooled by the term offshore, these were fast boats, not racing cars, whose particularity was their step hull. The brand is monagésque, but the boats are built in Italy.

"The Monte-Carlo Offshore was the first dayboats built with a step hull." explains Lucio Calegari, importer of the Monte-Carlo brand in France and Monaco.

Same hull, new models

In the 1990s, the brand stopped producing new models due to the crisis. In recent years, the second-hand market on this type of boat has worked particularly well, Gianfranco Rossi has decided to relaunch new models, but under a new brand, Monte-Carlo The Original.

"It is an iconic and very special boat that sails really well, with great stability and performance. At the time, it was compared to the Rivas. Today, there is a demand for this type of boat and boaters are buying used models. So we thought it was time to relaunch the brand." explains Lucio Calegari.

Construction and import will be carried out by the Monegasque shipyard Interyachts Monaco, headed by Lucio Calegari, former Managing Director of Cantieri de Sarnico.

A first 27-foot outboard model

The first model will be a 27-foot boat that will retain the mythical step hull designed in the United States by Bob Hopps in the late 1970s. However, the latter has evolved according to the latest hydrodynamic studies, ensuring excellent seakeeping and rapid lift-off.

"The hulls remain the same, but the deck plans and engine have changed to adapt to current pollution and consumption needs" lucio Calegari explains.

The first 27 feet will be an open outboard - the yard is still thinking about the engine, but is thinking about a 350 HP - with a large front sunbathing area and a central console. The second model - also 27 feet - will look much more like the old models with a deck front, a port helm station protected by a reverse windshield and a large sunbathing area at the rear. The latter will be powered in sterndrive.

"The program of this boat is the family outing and not necessarily the sporty driving, as one might think. It is a very stable boat, which marked its time and we decided to relaunch this boat" details the importer.

The yard hopes to launch the 27th open in July 2019 and it will take until 2020 to see the 27 deck on the water.

A range at venir??

Originally, the Monte-Carlo Offshorer range consisted of 6 models: 27, 30, 38, 40, 46 and 55 feet. "There will be a range of two models for the moment, the 27 declined in two deck plans. Then will follow a 30-foot inboard motorized boat. We will then see if we can find other models based on demand, but that's not on the agenda at the moment." explains Lucio Calegari.

The site is already working on an electric version to navigate on the lakes in particular. It will take between 135?000 and 140?000 ? for the 27 feet outboard.
