Orangemarine launches a portable VHF model with integrated DSC function. The VHF WPF 700 is a laptop that has all the functions of a fixed VHF DSC. With its button on the back, it can send a distress call identifying the boat (by its MMSI number) and giving the position (with its integrated GPS).
This small VHF is waterproof and floating (IPX7). It has a vibration system to clean the microphone and speaker. Once in contact with the water, its screen starts to flash and the VHF buzzer emits an alarm to help you retrieve it at night.
All charging solutions
The VHF comes with a 1500 mAh Lithium battery. It can be recharged on a base either directly via the VHF or by removing the battery (and using a supplied adapter). This last solution can be used to have 2 batteries and switch from one to the other. The charger can be connected either 220 V or 12 V (cigarette lighter socket). Both charging solutions are delivered with VHF.
Clear ergonomics
Using this laptop is quite simple. As with any DSC model, you must first enter your MMSI number to activate the DSC function. The menus are accessible via 4 function keys just below the screen. Even if the device only speaks English, the menus are clear and the ergonomics very pleasant. You can navigate through the functions using the 4 arrows on the keyboard, the OK key in the middle is used to confirm.
In addition to the classic functions of a VHF (selection of 5 or 1 W power, dual or triple watch...) this VHF also includes a GPS. This can be used for navigation with waypoint recording, the Goto function (heading and distance to a point) and even a man overboard function (MOB).

In this VHF DSC, we find the distress functions with the choice of the alarm triggered (fire, waterway, collision...), but also the communication functions offered by this digital system: selective call to a single recipient, group call, position request, call log..
