Special Edition / SailSense, an application to give navigation tips

Armed with artificial intelligence, the SailSense application provides personalized advice to avoid disastrous situations for boats. A kind of supervisor that reassures inexperienced boaters.

SailSense is a boat monitoring system. Whether sailing or motorboating, an owner likes to follow the evolution of his boat, especially when he is not on board. With its embedded system, SailSense retrieves data from all on-board devices (engine, fridge, electricity, etc.) as well as navigation data and centralizes them on a shore server.

This service is very popular with rental companies, who can follow their fleet and give advice to their customers if necessary (example: "Given the distance from the port of return, it is time to set sail"). On a dashboard accessible from his computer, the lessor has the possibility to follow the events that occurred on his boat.

A personalized library

SailSense now has a mobile application. This time it is not the lessor who is the addressee, but the sailor sailing on board the boat. Once the application is loaded (free application) the tenant will scan the QR code in the cockpit and will have immediate access to the onboard document library. A kind of encyclopedia that includes all the instructions for use and manuals for the instruments installed on the boat. A library specifies with only the documents specific to the boat.

Smart advice

But this application is not limited to a simple library. Armed with artificial intelligence, the application will monitor events on the boat and provide advice or assistance to the sailor. The latter will receive information on his mobile in the form of a notification to ensure the smooth running of the boat.

For example:

  • A person who has forgotten to turn off his engine while it is heeling too much and may damage it, the application indicates this by a notification
  • If you anchor in a protected area, a notification tells you not to stay there.
  • If the weather forecast indicates a gust of wind, a notification advises you on the length of the chain to be anchored to ensure anchoring.
  • If the sun sets, a notification will advise you to check a checklist of points to check before sailing at night...

This information will be particularly useful for occasional boaters who rarely sail and for whom recommendations are welcome. The Boat Clubs, day charterers will find it very interesting to distribute these tips to marine apprentices, who will also enjoy applying them to make the day at sea a success.
