Interview / Samantha Davies: "Sailing with the winner of the Route du Rhum, there's nothing better"

A few days ago, Samantha Davies announced that she was looking for a co-skipper to race the Transat Jacques Vabre aboard her IMOCA Initiatives-Cur. Several of them applied in video for this highly coveted "position", such as as astronaut Thomas Pesquet, actor François Damiens and even the former skipper of Initiatives-Cur, Tanguy de Lamotte. But it is finally Paul Meilhat, winner of the 2018 Route du Rhum, who will have the chance to sail in duet with the British sailor.

The choice is fait?! Several of them applied for the position of co-skipper to accompany the British sailor - Breton by adoption - Samantha Davies on the Transat Jacques Vabre. Thomas Pesquet, François Damiens and even Tanguy De Lamotte volunteered to cross the Atlantic in duet aboard the IMOCA Initiatives-C?ur. But on reflection, it was Paul Meilhat whom the talented sailor chose to accompany her on the Route du Café. She explains her choice to us.

"It was really fun to see these videos of stars - and even Tanguy de Lamotte, who I know is not available since he gave me the helm of Initiatives-C?ur - to accompany me on the Transat Jacques Vabre.

If I chose Paul Meilhat, it's because he can make my boat even more efficient than I can do. There's nothing better for that than to sail with the man who has just won the 2018 Route du Rhum. He has demonstrated his talent and know-how since he joined SMA. He knows the settings and the right paths in IMOCA. And it's someone who can bring me the maximum in view of the 2020 Vendée Globe.
