Weather conditions too strong
The crew of the giant trimaran Spindrift Racing - led by Yann Guichard - entered this Sunday 13 January 2019 in code orange. Since November 5, 2018, the boat has reached Brest and the 12 sailors are waiting for a favourable weather window... that doesn't come.
The project's router - Jean-Yves Bernot - even explained on December 3rd: "the situation is currently blocked by a low pressure circulation from the American coast to northern Europe. This generates strong southwest to west winds that deprive us of any chance of reaching the equator in interesting race times. In addition to this, there is a large sea from the front, synonymous with boat-breaking. We are therefore expecting a change in weather and navigation conditions and hope that the winds will soon shift to the northwest or northeast to leave."
Possible departure
The orange code means a possible departure within the next 4 days. So this time, will we have the chance to see Spindrift set off on the quest for a round-the-world record in équipage?? We hope so, because after a failed attempt in January 2016 (one day more than Loïck Peyron, the record holder at the time) and two failed attempts in 2017 (delayed start and dismasting at the start), we are more than impatient?!
Since then, the boat has been modified, in particular the appendages and the weight. The crew has had time to prepare and will appear alongside Yann Guichard, familiar with multihulls mixing experiences in Olympism, match racing or ocean racing. So let's hope this time it's bonne?!
