The Sea Eagle is the story of a German privateer who on his sailboat the Seeadler fought the enemy during the First World War. This German commander named Hugo Von Krüger for the story - the facts are based on the true story of Felix von Luckner - has a code of honour: he sinks merchant ships to hinder Allied supplies, but he refrains from making victims.
It was by taking a French crew prisoner that he took on board the beautiful Luynes Penelope, which would change his life on board. At the end of the first volume, we had left this endearing crew on their way to Cape Horn to escape an English steamer. We find him struggling with headwinds still south of the tip of America. The chase in the freezing winds and among icebergs is very well told with beautiful sea drawings.
The rest of the story takes place in Polynesia on an atoll with new twists and turns that give the whole story its full meaning. On reading, one remains captivated by this romanticized maritime adventure, undoubtedly attracted by the personalities and carnal assets of the characters..
