For the venerable Corsaire, designed by Jean-Jacques Herbulot in 1954, is a coastal cruiser emblematic of the Breton and Atlantic coasts. At 5.50 meters long, this habitable dinghy in plywood or polyester has left its mark on the history of sailing through its simplicity and versatility.

A gathering open to all

The event is designed to be accessible to all members, whether family crews, cruisers or regatta enthusiasts. Held over five days - a welcome day and four sailing days - at the beginning of August, it offers varied and relatively short courses to enable all competitors, even the least experienced, to take part in good conditions.

In addition, the organization takes care of logistical aspects such as craning, berths and ports of call. As Le Corsaire's primary vocation is coastal cruising, the program includes, in most cases, ports of call different from the host port. This enables crews to spend two or three nights on board, forging links and exchanging experiences. Entertainment and meals are also organized whenever possible.

A popular recurring event

All participants remember the meal organized on the beach of Houat in 2003, with 550 kg of equipment and victuals unloaded, or the paella served on the island of Aix in 2006, in front of 60 beached Corsairs. These practices create a very convivial environment around the National, offering beginners the opportunity to achieve what they might not dare undertake alone.

Regatta enthusiasts are not forgotten, with rounds including coastal and banana courses. Novice crews benefit from a sponsor to guide and advise them during the event, as well as a special ranking extracted from the general ranking. The Challenge L'Herculey is awarded to the first-place finisher. Young crews under the age of 25 are also rewarded.

Thanks to its success and the constant attention paid to its organization, this formula has enabled the series to remain one of the most dynamic in the country.
