Photographer Ricardo Pinto wins the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image 2018 thanks to his photo taken during the Volvo Ocean Race 2018. A very nice picture of Sun Hung Kai Scallywag taken on arrival in Lisbon at the last light of the sun.

Show the diversity of sailing sport

109 photographers from 25 countries took part in the 9th edition of the famous sea photography competition. The photos presented illustrated the 2018 sailing season and highlighted the great diversity of sports, from round-the-world races to sailing clubs that allow young people to train. Not to mention the international events that are taking place all over the world.

Ricardo Pinto's victory

Portuguese photographer Ricardo Pinto won the main Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image award for his photo taken during the Volvo Ocean Race. Based in Lisbon, Ricardo Pinto has been in this business for many years.

" It is a privilege to be able to follow some of the most memorable moments in the world. My goal is to be able to share this with as many people as possible, as long as I am able to do so." he said "The Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image competition brings together some of the world's best photographers and their unique work. An extraordinary panel of specialists."

The photographer, who is currently working in Africa, succeeds the German photographer Sören Hese .

The jury's choice

"This image has me more at first sight and it deserves to win." explains Jesus Renedo, world-renowned professional photographer and jury member "For us photographers, the most difficult thing is to take a picture with all that it induces. In Ricardo's case, I can only imagine that he had to convince the accompanying boats to move away from Scallywag when he arrived in Lisbon in order to capture the boat's dark silhouette under the last rays of the sun, while still identifying it. It's definitely a winning image taken by a great photographe?!"

The other prices

Eloi Stichelbaut (FRA) wins the Yacht Racing Forum Award, presented by the delegates of the Yacht Racing Forum. Brigi Török (HUN) won the Public Award after collecting the most votes on the Internet.

France in the spotlight

He won in front of two French photographers: Martin Keruzoré and Pierre Bouras. France is the most successful nation in the competition this year with seven photos in the top 20, followed by Australia and Russia.

The contest is still as popular as ever, especially on social networks. More than 10,000 votes were counted, and more than 235,000 pages were viewed on the website.
