A reflective glass superstructure for Project Shark

Project Shark

"Project Shark" - since named DAR - is a 90 m long (295 feet) superyacht built by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco and designed by interior and exterior designers DeBasto Design and Nuvolari Lenard. Its innovative and modern superstructure is composed of reflective black glass panels, in which contrasting white balconies take their place. Splendid!

The Dutch shipyard Oceanco, known for its incredible custom superyachts from 80 to 140 m has just delivered the superb "Project Shark". This 90 m long and 14.2 m wide superyacht, named DAR, has been designed by DeBasto Design with a modern and distinctive exterior design.

The yacht was nicknamed "Project Shark" because of the "wings" that frame the wheelhouse, which, seen from above, remind one of a hammerhead shark, and the mast, which from the side, reminds one of a fin.

The DAR has a sporty look with flowing shapes and lines, but above all it is very elegant and luxurious. This is due to its superstructure made of reflective glass panels that offer a panoramic view from floor to ceiling, not only to the aft decks, but also to the sides. A design conceived to maximize outdoor living opportunities and provide maximum "contact" with marine life. A design that also reflects the latest advances in glass technology.

Despite the large living space, the designer wanted to keep a long, sporty and light profile without a heavy superstructure, which characterizes many superyachts. "The profile of the boat is a unique design between contrast and homogeneity between the dark glass and the white balconies. This creates an exchange of shapes and lines between the two elements. My initial drawings may have looked like a futuristic concept, but it is now a real yacht thanks to Oceanco's engineering team and the vision of her owner and team." explains Luiz De Basto.

The upper deck is reserved for owners and has been specially designed without gangways to ensure total privacy. However, they have access to the outside via private balconies, which also bring light inside. They also have access to their own spa, located on the foredeck.

The interior is by Nuvolari Lenard and was designed in concert with the exterior concept. The owners did not want dark wood, preferring alternative materials and finishes such as fine fabrics, wallpaper, 3D lacquer, bas-reliefs, metallic surfaces, cut-out leather panels and upholstery. However, there are light and precious interior woods such as sycamore fiddleback, small Brazilian wood details or bleached grey maple.

"The main theme is nature, with inspiration from flowering waterfalls, feathers, fish, waves and so on." explains Valentina Zannier, head designer and junior partner at Nuvolari Lenard. " The opulence is almost invisible, as it is expressed through the quality of the details and the tasteful combination of complete custom finishes."
