Nice surprise for Dongfeng Race Team at Atoll de la Surprise


Dongfeng Race Team, the Franco-Chinese team led by Charles Caudrelier in the Volvo Ocean Race, had the chance to sail right next to the Surprise Atoll. A turquoise lagoon to the north-west of New Caledonia. Pictures filmed by a drone and simply splendid!

With the Volvo Ocean Race fleet soon due to reach Auckland, the end of this sixth leg, the suspense has never been so high. The boats are sailing neck and neck and the finish should be extremely tight. Team Sun Hung Kai / Scallywag took the lead, followed by Team AkzoNobel and closely followed by MAPFRE and Dongfeng. Less than 20 miles separate the four competitors...

The Atoll de la Surprise is a coral island, belonging to the Entrecasteaux reefs, northwest of New Caledonia. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008, along with the lagoons of New Caledonia. An atoll and its lagoon in emerald and turquoise colours... Splendid!
