The Vendée Globe is well and truly over! The closing ceremony of the 8th Vendée Globe took place this Saturday 13 May 2017 in Les Sables-d'Olonne, in the company of the 29 skippers who took the start of the round the world race. The evening was full of emotions and allowed the skippers to say a few words about their participation. The 9th edition will take place on November 8, 2020 at 1:02 p.m.

The 29 participants in the Vendée Globe have once again found Les Sables-d'Olonne, the starting and finishing city for the solo non-stop round the world race. The closing ceremony - organised by the Vendée Departmental Council - was rich in emotions, allowing the skippers to immerse themselves in the adventure.

The unfortunate in the Vendée Globe

The first to be called on stage were the eleven skippers forced to retire due to damage: Paul Meilhat, Morgan Lagravière, Sébastien Josse, Kojiro Shiraishi, Bertrand de Broc, Stéphane Le Diraison, Vincent Riou, Thomas Ruyant, Enda O'Coineen, Thomas Ruyant and Tanguy de Lamotte. Their respective performances remind us that being at the start of the Vendée Globe is already a feat, as the investment and sacrifices are colossal to succeed in setting up a project.
