How to follow the arrival of the 8th Vendée Globe?

Channel of Sables d'Olonne

Only 33 miles separate Armel le Cléac'h and Alex Thomson, who are spending their last 24 hours at sea... Routing indicates an arrival in Les Sables-d'Olonne on Thursday 19th January 2017 between 1500 and 2000 hours for the skipper of Banque Populaire VII and between 0400 and 0700 hours later for the skipper of Hugo Boss. How can we follow the arrival of the two leaders of the fleet in this 8th edition?

This Thursday 19th January 2017 will allow one of the two leaders - namely Armel le Cléac'h 33 miles ahead of Alex Thomson - to enter the legend of "Everest of the Seas". Routings indicate that the first will arrive between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, while the second will arrive between 4:00 am and 7:00 am later. Arriving in Les Sables-d'Olonne, they will sail up the channel to the applause of the thousands of spectators who will (re) invade the channel of Port Olona.

Watch the finish in the Vendée Globe village

The Vendée Globe village has been relocated since 14th January 2017 and is once again getting ready to welcome a large crowd to come and welcome the heroes of the single-handed, non-stop, unassisted round the world race. You will be able to watch the finish live on a giant screen: crossing the finish line, going up the channel in Les Sables, climbing the podium and the sailors' press conference.

Attend the arrival on social networks

The official Vendée Globe website, its mobile and tablet applications, as well as the Dailymotion (in French and English) and YouTube (in English) channels will broadcast the finish live. You will also be able to go to Facebook LIVE to follow the live broadcast, which will start approximately 30 minutes before the finish line and end approximately two hours later. There will also be a LiveTweet on Twitter (#VG2016) and Stories on Snapchat and Instagram.

Follow the arrival on the map

The 2D and 3D cartography on the official website and on the application will allow to follow the arrival of the boats and will be updated every 60 minutes starting from 100 miles from Port Olona.

At sea

If you have the opportunity to follow the arrival from the sea, respect the safety measures and the weather conditions in the area. Especially with wind coming from land and strengthening away from the coast, very low temperatures and heavy seas.

Reminder of some safety rules to be respected:

- Stay away from competitors

- Watch out for other vessels and respect safe distances

- Take all necessary precautions of use

- Listen to the safety instructions of the organization's RIBs.
