Boston 230 Outrage, a clever little fishing trip

230 Outrage, new 2016/2017 from Boston Whaler

In 2016 and 2017, Boston Whaler will introduce no less than 4 new models in its Outrage range, including the small 230 Outrage. This 7.01m centre console open remains spacious despite its size, with easy on-board circulation and clever space-saving layout. This model is suitable for both fishing and cruising.

The new 230 Outrage from Boston Whaler is a spacious center console opener that expands the Outrage lineup, which now includes eight models from the 190 Outrage with a 5.74 m (18'10 ") cabin to the 420 Outrage with a 13 m (42'6 ") cabin. In 2016, the range will be extended by 3 other new models, including the 330 Outrage (10.08 m), the 280 (8.53 m) and the 250 (7.75 m).

The 230 Outrage is the smallest model in the centre console range with t-top as the 190 does not have one. Despite its 7.01 m, the boat remains spacious and well equipped for fishing with maximized floor space. Handrails all around the foredeck, high bulwarks and an enclosed cockpit make it easy to move around on board while providing a sense of security.

Like the rest of the range, the 230 Outrage is a balance between comfort and capacity. Thus, it has all the equipment necessary for a fishing boat, but remains comfortable and equipped for a sea trip. Its centre console allows walk-around circulation all around the boat with large side decks.

The foredeck features a U-shaped bench seat and a large storage area for two people at the front of the console. A table (which can be stored in the console when not in use) can be placed in the middle to create a saloon. The unit also converts into a sundeck by adding a cushion and perhaps protected by an awning.

Under the front bench seat is yet another storage area, while cup and rod holders are installed on either side of it. Comfort pads extend from the foredeck and frame it completely for added comfort when fishing. An optional JL Audio stereo module offers four speakers for sound throughout the boat.

The console can be sheltered by a rigid fibreglass hardtop (optional) on which there are numerous cane holders. The console also contains a small cabin for storing your belongings or chemical toilets (optional). The helm station has also undergone some improvements such as a darker console face to reduce glare and an intuitive control panel with optional Raymarine E95 touch screens.

One of the interesting features of the 230 Outrage is its leaning-post convertible. It can be used as a helm chair for 2 people (sitting or standing thanks to the upward-folding seats), but its backrest conceals a cleverly designed workstation that tilts down into the cockpit. You can prepare your lines, your meal or even your gear there. Finally, the backrest can be turned 90° to form a cockpit seat facing the sea. Underneath, there is a 204 L icebox.

The cockpit is fully equipped for fishing with numerous rod holders on the gunwales, fish tanks and livewells. A tilting bench seat installed at the stern folds out into the cockpit. Finally, two small platforms frame the outboard engine for easy access to the sea and to the pontoon.

Several choices of Mercury Verado outboard engines are available depending on the program required (2x115 hp to 350 hp). It reaches a top speed of 45.2 knots (6350 rpm) for a consumption of 1.76L/mile with a Mercury 300 Verado.

Price incl. VAT from 113,490 euros with 300 HP Mercury Verado.
