Winter is coming, take out your skis... on the water

Spordo's StickGlide is a new sliding discipline developed by Lionel Silvy, a ski and paddle enthusiast who wanted to combine these two activities. The objective? To use poles with floats to move around on the water, standing on a Twinfloat or cataskis? Discovery

On the Paris Nautic ...a strange demonstration caught our attention... Standing on two kinds of skis connected and with a stick in each hand, a man runs the length of the pool, giving the impression of "walking" on water...

That man is Lionel Silvy, creator of StickGlide, both a new sliding discipline and the name of this strange "boat." He's a sports instructor by trade who loves innovation, skiing and paddling. In 2014, he decided to combine his two passions to develop the StickGlide, a practice that consists of moving forward on the water using poles, like those he loves so much in skiing.

The StickGlide activity is the use of two sticks by the upper limbs of a practitioner positioned on any boat...

The StickGlide is therefore a stick, composed of a curved float that creates a depression on the surface of the water. Whether you push forward or backward, the thrust is straight and does not cause discomfort or vibration. Stable, light and easy to handle, they also allow you to take turns and their ease of use suits all riders, whatever their level.

To complete these sticks, Lionel had the idea to develop his own supports, even if they can be used with existing supports, such as the paddy. Thus were born two supports:

- The Twinfloat a catamaran (twin floats) which allows you to be more stable on the water

- The cataskis Two separate floats, which look like skis to catch waves, extremely flexible thanks to their neoprene attachment and self-draining with their 2 drain wells. "It's kind of like riding an elliptical bike, a kind of crinkled walk." Lionel explains.

The StickGlide can be practiced both at sea and on a lake, for a walk, for fun or for sport. Moreover, the practice makes it possible to work many parts of the body. Finally, it is transportable, you just have to store your catamaran on the roof (like a board).
