As in every year since its creation in 2005 by the German magazine Boote, 25 motor boats have been nominated for the title of European Powerboat of the Year 2017. Candidates for the title are divided into five categories. The first four are defined according to the length of the boat, while the last one is a trawler category
- Motor boats under 25 feet
- Motor boats under 35 feet
- Motor boats under 45 feet
- Motor boats over 45 feet long
- Trawlers
The jury - composed of 9 journalists from European nautical magazines - gathered at the Cannes Yachting Festival to choose the winners of the election. However, it will be necessary to wait until the opening night of the Dusseldorf Boat Show (21/01/2017) to know the winners
To choose the winner in each category, the jury relies on various characteristics such as design, innovation, overall concept, layout and value for money. This means that boats with innovative ideas or new concepts are included in the ranking. The idea of rewarding models with outstanding features regardless of the brand or models distributed on the market
That's why there are four length categories, so that larger models don't shade smaller models
