When a boat fire ruins a retirement project

One fire and a whole dream comes crashing down. Armand, the new owner of a star, sees his plans go up in smoke. He launches an SOS to the marine community.

At the editorial office of Bateaux.com, we received the following call for help. A simple but strong message that challenged us:

"Hello,

My boat caught fire. The electrical installation, including the engines, has to be completely redone. I'm looking for 2.5% flexible wiring for the repair.. 2 , 1,5 2 and 1 2 possibly sockets, switches, terminals..."

Information taken, the owner of this boat told us his story:

"At 60, I never imagined that such an adventure could happen to me: buying a boat for 62,500 euros so that it would leave in smoke 5 days later!

On July 15, 2014, I will buy a Possilipo Antigua 38 (11.50 m flying boat from the 70's - Editor's note). The boat was moored in the port of Liège (river port in Belgium) until July 18, 2014. On July 19, I move it to the small port of Visé, a few kilometers from Liege. I was preparing to live a great adventure with this boat. Destiny wanted otherwise.

Indeed, the day after my arrival in Visé, on July 20, heavy thunderstorms hit the region. These heavy rains caused water to enter through the ceiling and triggered a large electrical short circuit, which caused a fire. The fire spread into the engine hold and the saloon.

Despite the intervention of the fire brigade, the boat is now unusable. I have been fighting in the courts for 2 years, but I am hitting a wall. I learned that the former owner is insolvent..

So I decide to go ahead and fight the bad fate by taking my destiny in hand! That's why I'm contacting you.

Are you asking me what I'm waiting for? It's simple and complicated at the same time, because at 62 I find myself in financial difficulties. It's impossible for me to find the 15,000 euros required for repairs. But I'd really like to find a way to get this boat back into sailing condition... Hence my call for help.

The boat's falling apart. I'd like to find some equipment, volunteer labour, to repair it. I already thank all the people who could help me.

Armand J."
