A wireless circuit breaker for free and safe navigation

The American company Fell Marine markets a revolutionary wireless circuit breaker. Goodbye cordon that connects us to the dashboard and limits our movements, especially during a fishing trip!

The MOB+ wireless fuse developed by Fell Marine is a system that allows you to enjoy navigation in complete freedom, but guarantees passenger safety in the event of a man overboard. Indeed, in a motor boat, the circuit breaker, which stops the boat in case of a fall in the water, limits the movements. Fell Marine therefore offers a new wireless circuit breaker, specially developed to guarantee the highest efficiency and operating the second the owner of the MOB+ falls overboard, stopping the engine.

An easy to install system

This system consists of a first module - the xHUB - which must be installed on the dashboard and a second module - the xFOB - which must be worn on the body. The xHUB operates with a 12-24V power supply while the xFOB, which looks like a small pad, can be worn on a silicone strap, around the neck with a cord, on a belt or as a badge, on the lifejacket.

The two modules are connected as soon as they board the boat, by simultaneously pressing the two (3 seconds on the console module to pair the two modules and a click on the module to carry on you) and communicate wirelessly. The xFOB, which operates on a battery and weighs 10 g with an autonomy of more than 300 hours and can be immersed to a depth of 30 m.

A Man OverBoard mode to stop the engine

The MOB (Man OverBoard) mode guarantees the safety of the yachtsman and his passengers. In the event of a fall into the water, the system automatically stops the boat's motor. It is sufficient that the xFOB is immersed in 10 cm of water (i.e. in the event of a fall, even if the man overboard remains within wave range, the engine will still shut down since the warning device will be underwater, which will shut down the signal) or that it moves out of range of the xHUB (the module has a range of 15 m).

After 6 seconds of engine shutdown, the system automatically activates the Override mode, which allows any passenger or crew member to restart the engine without having to interact with the system.

Back on board, you just have to click on your xFOB again to reconnect. To disconnect, it's the same procedure, one click is enough.

State-of-the-art wireless technology

To operate, the MOB+ system uses the Norwegian WiMEA (Marine Wireless Electronics Algorithm) protocol, a highly advanced wireless technology for maritime safety, without interference. Up to 20 xFOB can be connected to the same XHUB even if only one module is running at any given time.

This device, which costs $199 (?176), is recommended for boats of 40 feet or less.
