Paroa 34', the sailboat in the image of its owner

When the mass production does not offer the yacht of one's dreams, there remains the solution of having it designed and built by a naval architecture firm. This is how the Paroa 34' was born, from the dreams of an owner and the drawing board of Vincent Lebailly.

This is the first boat from the "Draw me a boat" software to be finalized. The first to be designed from the desires and drawings of its owner.

"Draw me a boat" is a software developed by the team of naval architect Vincent Lebailly and available free of charge on the internet. This tool allows you to shape your ideas when you want to draw your boat: the five-legged sheep that meets all your expectations in terms of navigation.

The owner of the Paroa 34' started by using it before getting in touch with Vincent Lebailly who was in charge of finalizing the design. Since mid-July, this project has been sailing. Launched in Ouistreham, it will sail around the tip of Brittany to reach its home port in Noirmoutier, before being presented in September 2015 at the Grand-Pavois in La Rochelle. Indeed, the mold of the number 1 is available for other units on which the layouts could vary.

The Paroa 34' is designed to be fast with facilities for family cruising. Its hydraulically pivoting lifting keel reduces the draft to 1.25 m (2.30 m with the keel down) and the two suspended rudders ensure good course keeping (but do not allow beaching).

The design of the boat was dictated by the width of the owner's berth: 3.30 max with fenders! Narrow (3.07 m for a hull length of 10.20 m), the Paroa is a bit of a keelboat, but settles on its chine under the reef. Light (light weight of 3.6 tons with 0.97 tons in ballast), the first trials showed a lively boat at the helm. All the rigging is made of carbon, always in search of performance. A telescopic spinnaker pole integrated to the hull will hoist the downwind sails.

The cockpit is divided into two areas: the aft area is for maneuvering with the tiller and winches, while the forward area, bordered by the mainsheet traveler, is designed to accommodate the crew. Note the clever cockpit table that can be stored in the floor during navigation. This cockpit is closed at the rear by a large tilting transom that secures it during navigation and facilitates access to the water at anchor.

The interior layout is very simple, with 4 berths without a closed cabin and a toilet, even if an aft cabin, replaced here by bunkers, can be accommodated under the cockpit. This gives an impression of space, but the headroom is limited (1.85 m maximum), due to the low freeboard (1.20 m at the bow and 90 cm at the stern, which also makes the exterior line elegant).

If the Paroa 34' will be at the Grand Pavois Exhibition preliminary designs for a 40 and a 28 footer will also be presented on this occasion, in order to build a range.
