La Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme, the first legal review on the nautical world

The Legisplaisance association and the Centre de droit Maritime et Océanique of the Nantes Law School are launching the Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme, the first legal review on the nautical world. Jérôme Heilikman, president of the Legisplaisance association, tells us more about this project.

Jérôme, why did you have the idea of creating the Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme?

The "Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme" was created in partnership with the "Centre de Droit Maritime", with whom Legiplaisance had already collaborated on the "Guide du Droit de la Plaisance". We had the idea to set it up because the law evolves quite a lot. The book published in December was difficult to update too often. We had thought of setting up files but it is not so easy. So we launched the "Revue du droit de la plaisance et du nautisme".

What is it about?

It is a legal book accessible to non-lawyers. The articles are at simple reading levels so that people who have not studied law can understand. There are also doctrinal articles for legal professionals. In short, it is a legal review on the law of pleasure boating. It is built on a framework common to all reviews: 2 main articles (20 pages) that will go into depth on a subject and then articles of one or two pages easier to read. There will also be a zoom on 2/3 jurisprudences that have marked the year or on the history of yachting law, as well as a legal and nautical agenda, interviews or portraits of personalities of the nautical world (their career, their profession, the advice to give to young peopleâ?¦).

Who is it for?

It is addressed to all people who are interested in boating but especially in the legal aspect of boating. We are really on the legal niche and therefore we have several levels of reading and readers: legal for lawyers, more accessible articles for boaters who are interested in the law etcâeuros¦ In summary, it is aimed at the actors of boating, from boaters to professionals through associations of boaters and public bodies.

How to receive it?

The "Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme", is a 60 pages magazine, which will be published 4 times a year in electronic format, to be downloaded on the Legiplaisance website. The 1st er copy will be released on 1 er july and 2 eme is already well underway, for a release in late September/early October. The 1 er issue is open access, it will be the showcase issue of the Journal and the 2nd eme the following events will be reserved for Legiplaisance members.

Who writes the Revue du Droit de la Plaisance et du Nautisme?

The Editorial Committee is composed of 6 people (lecturer, lawyer, university professor, doctoral studentâeuros¦) recognized in the field and from all over France (Nantes, Paris, Marseille and La Rochelle). The principle of the magazine is also to rely on editors, boaters or people in the trade, who feel they have expertise in a particular field (legal, nauticalâeuros¦). His article will then be submitted to the editorial committee and integrated if it corresponds to the editorial theme. The articles will be neutral and will not induce any political or religious opinion. This journal also allows doctoral students to make themselves known. That's why the editorial committee that composed it was very important. We needed an important scientific credibility for the journal to become a reference in the law of boating. This is a plus for us. Thus, big names in law, lawyers could come and write in our columns.

Have you had any feedback on the launch of this magazine?

So far, the idea is well received and we have positive feedback. As for the book, it has been a great success. For the moment the publisher does not want us to communicate on the figures but it exceeds our expectations.

How is this magazine innovative?

Basically, there is no review or book that deals with the law of pleasure craft since it is a matter of several fields of law. There is only the Revue du droit maritime (fishing, trade) but it is aimed at professionals.
