Dongfeng Race Team finished 4th in Gothenburg, the last leg of the Volvo Ocean Race, and finished on the podium with a very good 3rd place.

Dongfeng Race Team fought until the end against Team Brunel and MAPFRE. Until they entered the Göta älu river, the Franco-Chinese crew fought hard to keep their 3rd place e place on the podium. He came 4th e in Sweden, three minutes behind MAPFRE, but still remains on the podium, behind Team Brunel which takes the 2nd place e place in the ranking. MAPFRE takes the 4th place e place overall, one point behind the Dongfeng crew.

This 3 e place and this podium victory have an intense taste for the crew that nobody believed in, at the start of Alicante. Charles Caudrelier was taking on the position of skipper of a team for the first time for a round the world race. And the team included Chinese sailors who knew little about sailing, and most of them had never slept on board a few weeks before the start. After a nine-month race around the globe, one dismasting, and two stage victories, Dongfeng has earned the respect and admiration of everyone, including its rivals. Even if their journey has had its ups and downs, Charles Caudrelier has proven his ability to unite and keep his head high, even in the face of challenges, such as when they dismasted on the 5 e stage, forcing them to give up.

With Pascal Bidégorry at the helm (winner of the Solitaire du Figaro 2004 and winner of the previous edition of the Volvo Ocean Race with Groupama), Charles Caudrelier has reached the top of the ranking several times. At the end of the first four legs, Dongfeng Race Team was second in the general ranking, equal in points with Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing.

Caudrelier's men were beginning to believe in a possible victory, but their dismasting and then their poor performance in Lisbon (7 e place) dashed their hopes. They were now aiming for the 2 e then the 3 e place on the podium. Against all odds, Dongfeng has nothing to be ashamed of in comparison to Ian Walker, winner of the edition, and his three legs or Bouwe Bekking, skipper of Team Brunel, and seven campaigns on the counter.
