Three days after their arrival in Lorient, the 7 crews of the Volvo Ocean Race competed in the Lorient In-Port this Sunday, June 14.

The start, which was supposed to take place at 2:00 pm, was finally delayed to 2:40 pm due to a big wind shift. The crews crossed the starting line anchored in front of the Talud Point, surrounded by many spectator boats, who came to encourage them. While Team Vestas Wind got off to a great start, Nicholson and his men made several tactical errors as they passed the first mark. They finished in last place on the 6.6 mile course. Team Alvimedica quickly took the lead in the first upwind leg. By choosing to go ashore, towards the point, unlike their competitors, who chose the left side of the water, towards the lighthouse of Pen Men located on the island of Groix, the American Turquo chose the right strategy. Charlie Enright and his crew won after 1 hour of racing.

This is the 2 e victory for Team Alvimedica on an In-Port, since the start of the race. A happiness for the Frenchman, Sebastien Marsset, who joined the crew and won in its waters.

While MAPFRE, too much in advance on the line, completely misses its start, it finishes nevertheless at the 2 e place. Having given up nothing, and choosing the good sides of the water, they managed to get ahead of Dongfeng. The latter finished in 3rd place e place.

The start of the last leg will be on Tuesday at 5pm for 960 miles to Gothenburg, Sweden with a 24 hour pit stop in The Hague.
