While the start of the race has been postponed due to the violent cyclone Pam, which ravaged Vanuatu this weekend, the In-Port race has been maintained. The six boats started in Auckland harbor this Saturday, March 14, at 2:00 pm (local time/2 hours in France) and it is Team SCA that won.

Saturday was a day of 7 knots of wind pushing up to 12 knots and clear skies. It was hard to imagine that a cyclone was about to hit Auckland the next day with winds of over 100 km/h and waves of over 20 meters high! It is for obvious safety reasons that Knut Frostad, the CEO of the race, has postponed the start of the race. The crews will not set sail until late Tuesday afternoon. On Sunday, the crews were supposed to do a charity race, but this was cancelled and the race village closed, including Monday.

Saturday was a perfect interlude to bring the crews of the Volvo Ocean Race on the water of the world capital of sailing. The Volvo Ocean 65s passed under the Auckland Harbour Bridge, surrounded by a crowd of spectator boats. "Only in Auckland can you see so many spectator boats. Nowhere else can you witness this." explained Knut Frostad.

Like in the Abu Dhabi In-Port race, Team SCA took the lead from the start and never let go. They won the race without any fear of the pressure imposed by their opponents. For the moment, the women's team is the only one to have 2 victories in an In-Port race. A way to prove the quality of the crew composition. Sam Davies, skipper of the team declared " We are very happy to win this In-Port. We did a great race. It was not obvious. In the training regattas, we made a lot of mistakes. But we also learned. We did a good team effort today. It was really good, everything worked perfectly. A good start, tactics,âeuros¦"

The second place was taken by Team Brunel. The Franco-Chinese crew only finished in 4th place e position, but that's two places better than its main competitor, Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing. The crew had to cross the line and did not start until several minutes after their competitors. In the provisional In-Port race ranking, ADOR is tied with Team Brunel (14 points). Team SCA is 3 e of the ranking with 16 points, just ahead of Dongfeng Race Team (18 points). For the moment, half of the In-Port races have been completed, i.e. 5.
