On Saturday, February 7, at 7:00 a.m. (2:00 p.m. in China) this morning, the six Volvo Ocean 65s set off for the Sanya In-Port Race, with Team Vestas Wind skipper Chris Nicholson looking on as a commentator.

The conditions were perfect for this 4th In-Port race with a wind of a dozen knots for a race of 3 laps (7.2 miles) in the port of Sanya. However, one crew was less serene than the others, Dongfeng Race Team. And for good reason, Charles Caudrelier and his men are in 1st place in the rankings and had put extra pressure on themselves not to disappoint their public in this home race. It was impossible not to win the race on this stretch of water that they know by heart, having trained there regularly for several months.

It is finally done since it is the Franco-Chinese crew that won the race after an hour of sailing where the leaders followed one another. At the start of the race, Team Alvimedica was in the lead, but a problem with one of its headsails relegated it to the back seat. Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing took advantage of this to take 1st place, but very quickly, Dongfeng managed to take the lead and keep it, despite the threat of Ian Walker's crew.

The Franco-Chinese crew, who were keen to win this race and win the admiration of their peers, succeeded in their gamble. However, they had not yet managed to win on these technical courses (5th in Alicante, 4th in Cape Town and 4th in Abu Dhabi). A nice way to reassure himself before the start of the 4th stage tomorrow.

Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing takes the 2nd place e place, followed by Charlie Enright's team.
