These 23 days at sea have been difficult for Team SCA but have allowed the girls to learn a lot. Despite their last position, they never got so close to the leaders and arrived shortly after the rest of the fleet. Sailing alongside more experienced sailors allowed them to learn new things and discover their way of doing things. What scared them the most was the Malacca Strait, as none of them had ever sailed there before.
Sam Davies, tells his adventure from Abu Dhabi to Sanya "It was a tough leg but we are happy with the way we sailed. It's the first time we have finished so close to the leaders but we still have a lot of work to do. We really wanted to stay in the pack and we were disappointed not to be able to stay in contact. But we were still able to see them, sail close and learn. We made some serious progress. We were nervous about the Malacca Strait because none of us had ever sailed it and the other skippers had told us horrible stories! In the end, we liked it. Of course, there were obstacles to overcome, things to avoid, but we felt we were doing things right. I think the others were just trying to scare us!"
Dee Cafari adds " We had fun sailing and we can see that we have progressed. It was great to be able to sail with the other boats but it's very hard to see them disappear and have to continue on our own."
