Charles Caudrelier, skipper emeritus of Dongfeng Race Team

Charles Caudrelier is a French sailor who made his name in the early 2000s by taking part in the Solitaire du Figaro. After numerous solo and duo victories, this year he is the skipper of the Franco-Chinese Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 team.

Charles Caudrelier is a French navigator born in February 1974 in Fouesnant, Finistère. While at the Port-la-Forêt training centre, he took part in the Solitaire du Figaro in 1999. This is how he made his debut in the world of sailing personalities, finishing at the 9 th position and on the 1 epoch pledge podium walk.

In 2001, he participated in the first edition of the BPE Trophy, which he won in duet with Gildas Morvan. The same year, he wins the Tour of Brittany and is classified in 5 th position of the Solitaire du Figaro. It was finally in 2004 that he won the title of Solitaire du Figaro champion. In 2009, he was Marc Guillemot's co-skipper aboard Safran in the Transat Jacques Vabre and thus won the race.

In 2010, when Franck Cammas won the Route du Rhum, he was one of the two routers that led him to success. In 2011-2012, he is helmsman trimmer and navigator and performance manager for Groupama 4 on the Volvo Ocean Race, of the French team led by Franck Cammas. It was the French crew that won the competition at the end of this round the world ocean race in 2012.

On 26 February 2014, he obtained the title of skipper of the French-Chinese Dongfeng Race Team for the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015. This decision takes place on the day of its 40 th anniversary.
