Turn your phone into a depth sounder!

Navionics and Vexilar join forces to offer a WiFi sounder that can be viewed directly on your tablet, in the same software as the cartography, all for less than 200

On the one hand, you have Navionics Boating, the world's most downloaded boating mapping application, considered an indispensable tool for sailing or fishing.

On the other hand, SonarPhone, the fishfinder specialist, offers the T-Box, a simple and easy to set up WiFi fishfinder. The box transmits all the data to an iPhone or an iPad without the need for a NMEA network for example.

The combination of the two allows you to view the sonar data directly in the same mapping application, along with the map, in full screen or split screen. Thus the App locates your position on the map and analyzes the depths. " Navionics Boating, with the SonarPhone feature, is a natural evolution of the Smart" technology explains Steve Baumann, owner of Vexilar. He adds, "Vexilar has pioneered many innovations in fishfinders. These technologies have been used by many anglers for over 55 years, from the introduction of our first LCD fishfinder to the newest technology for ice fishing fishfinders. Our latest innovation, SonarPhone Wi-Fi, is at the forefront of future fishing technologies. Navionics Boating and SonarPhone are a strong team working toward this goal."

Also new, sharing data from users connected to Navionics' SonarPhone enhances SonarCharts Live, an HD bathymetric chart available on plotters, mobiles and the web. You enrich the Navionics database and participate in the improvement of marine charts. To do this, you must first purchase the SonarPhone T-Box sounder from Vexilar, which will transmit your depth readings directly to your phone or tablet, thanks to Wifi.

"As we have opted for wireless technology, our partnership with Vexilar is a key factor in connecting the sounder and maps to devices like iPhones, iPads, at a very low price." said Don Black, senior vice president of global sales and marketing at Navionics. He adds " We're always providing more ways for users to update their maps wherever and whenever they want."

SonarCharts Live

SonarChartsLive will be the outgrowth of SonarCharts and will allow users to create their own SonarCharts. This is an important technological development, brought here by Navionics but is only the beginning of new marine electronics devices, which will allow Navionics Boating to expand the possibilities of interconnections and enrich real-time data for community or personal use.

The SonarPhone T-Box from Vexilar

The fishfinder proposed by Vexilar is a permanent housing, which is easily installed in a boat with access to a 12-volt power supply. Ideally suited for powerboats, it mounts to the transom in line with the waterline so it stays in the middle of the hull's lower section. It can also be mounted inside fiberglass hulls, but the temperature sensor option will be unusable.

The sounder works by sending an echo towards the bottom and allows to determine the depth of the water as well as its composition (sand, rocksâ?¦). It can reach a depth of 240 feet. Finally, it also indicates the presence of fish using the same principle of echo.

The SonarPhone T-Box works in conjunction with the Navionics SonarCharts Live application to turn your phone or tablet into a working fishfinder. It transmits via Wi-Fi technology and therefore does not require network coverage. It creates its own wireless hotspot and the signal can be shared with as many people as you want.

The Vexilar Sounder comes with a 12-volt USB cigarette lighter adapter and comes with a neoprene armband for easy access to your phone for $149.95.
