Final finish - 2014 Route du Rhum ranking

The Ultimates race has just finished with a record broken. For the first time in the history of this race, the entire class of Ultimates racing will make the crossing in less than 10 days.

1- LOICK PEYRON in 7d 15h 08 min and 32s

What a great revenge for the man who had never won a "Rhum" despite 6 participations. At 54, he even took the opportunity to beat Lionel Lemonchois's record of 2 hrs 10 min 34 sec. Read more.

2- YANN GUICHARD in 8d 08h 18 min and 46s

It was alone aboard Spindrift 2, a 40 m boat whose mainsail alone weighs over 450 kg, that Yann Guichard completed his Rhum - a real challenge. I've gone all the way, I'm really exhausted! I had tears in my eyes during some of the maneuvers. I did more maneuvers around Guadeloupe alone than during the whole race. Read the full interview. Discover Spindrift 2.

3- SEBASTIEN JOSSE in 8d 14h 47min and 09s

The man from Nice, who was competing in his 2nd Route du Rhum, gave his all to keep up with the leaders. Often in 4th place, his efforts were rewarded in the trade winds 750 miles from the finish, where he overtook Lionel Lemonchois. I forbade myself to sleep because I thought it was too dangerous. But fatigue caught up with me and I started sleeping after three days, but I never felt in danger.

4- LIONEL LEMONCHOIS in 8d 17h 44min in 50s

The former record-holder of the event is dejected. He was aiming for 2nd place, but got caught up in this tropical storm in the making. I've rarely slept so little in a week. I don't think I got any real sleep. I had little comas lasting 30 to 45 minutes. There was a lot of rhythm, and we were pushing each other hard. By the time I got to Madeira, I still hadn't fallen asleep and it was stressing me out. I was so caught up in it all, I couldn't sleep. Now, I'm ready to fall..." How do browsers manage sleep?

5- SIDNEY GAVIGNET in 8d 19h 15min and 24s

He started first in Saint-Malo and lost 4th place a few miles from the finish ( A high-voltage start ). I'm disappointed, I can't hide it. I made 99% of my mistakes in the last two hours of the race. I didn't break anything, apart from a windscreen which I left too vertical and which got smashed by the waves.

6- FRANCIS JOYON in 9d 4h 42mn and 4sec

Great battle for 6th position. In spite of the 2-hour penalty, Francis Joyon managed to get the inside track on Yann Eliès, just four hours before crossing the finish line ( Battle for 6th place in the Route du Rhum ). He completed the Route du Rhum course for the second time in less than 10 days.

7- YANN ELIES in 9d 5h 48mn and 15s

It was a double first for Yann Eliès: his first Route du Rhum and his first solo crossing aboard a 70-foot multihull, a boat he discovered and got to grips with just three months before the start. A real challenge for Yann, who was determined to master the boat and its navigation, and to finish the race cleanly.
