For this 36th edition of the Regates Royales, around a hundred monohulls will be gathered in Cannes Bay to compete. It will also be the occasion to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Panerai Classic Yacht Challenge circuit. The last race of the season, the Royal Regattas of Cannes will bring together 12MJI, 8 MJI, Dragons but also classic sailing boats with different types of rigging. On the Quai Laubeuf, the village of Les Régates Royales is planning many activities after the regattas, including concerts every evening.
A first day cancelled
Due to a strong wind of force 5 with gusts up to 6, the Royal Regatta Race Committee was forced to cancel the first day of racing on Tuesday, September 23rd, for the safety of its participants. The information was delivered at 1300 hours, forcing the crews to find something to do. It is therefore in the village at the quayside that the participants walk around. And it is also an opportunity for spectators to admire the magnificent sailing boats. While waiting for the race to get back on track, here are some figures to measure the eclecticism of the participants.
- The smallest is Cabrufa a 7.67-metre long Bermudan sloop built in 1970 and the longest one is Elena of London with an overall length of 50.71 metres;
- The oldest is Marigold a 1892 auric cutter and the most recent is in the Spirit of Tradition category, Alcyon 1,871 out of the worksites in 2013;
- The largest draught is won by Shamrock V which has the largest mast with a height of 48 metres above the water;
- The most canvassed is Elena of London carried by 1,300 m2 of sail area;
- The largest number of masts is won by Altair which has 3 masts;
