There are already ways to go sailing without owning your own boat, ranging from crew-matching platforms to listings posted in marinas or online. Coco-Boat builds on this concept by allowing skippers to post their sailing trips and available spots on board directly.
From a Day Trip at Sea to a Transatlantic Voyage
The platform does not restrict users to any specific geographic area. A captain can list their boat, itinerary, schedule, and the number of available spots for a private charter. The listing can thus cover anything from a coastal trip to a voyage lasting several weeks or, for example, a transatlantic crossing.
Coco-Boat plans to feature a world map showing available departures and crossings. However, at the time of our visit, the site did not yet display any available routes.
Reservations, Messaging, and Cost Sharing
On the passenger side, users can search through published trips. They can then contact the captain via an integrated messaging system before booking their spot. The price per person and the platform?s service fees are displayed separately before booking. Coco-Boat also states that it has integrated a payment system and verified profiles.
For the captain, the benefit lies in offering any vacant berths or seats on a voyage that has already been planned and, when a contribution is requested, sharing certain expenses with the crew.
The service is available in several languages and clearly has international ambitions. Its growth will now depend on the number of captains who post their sailing itineraries: on this type of platform, the variety of departure locations and proposed routes is a key factor for crew members looking to join a voyage.
