The market for yachts over 40 meters is evolving in response to new expectations. Noise reduction, energy consumption, ease of operation, and quality of life on board are playing an increasingly important role in specifications. With the B.Neos, Benetti is introducing a 40-meter model that embraces these trends by combining hybrid propulsion, a reimagined design, and new services designed to support the yacht?s operation.
A hybrid powertrain designed from the ground up
Unlike many projects where hybridization is an option, the B.Neos is designed around this powertrain architecture. Two 800 ch MAN V8 engines are paired with several operating modes tailored to the different phases of navigation.
The system features a quiet electric mode for low-speed travel and while at anchor, a diesel-electric mode designed to optimize fuel efficiency, a crossover mode that combines the various power sources, and a boost mode that provides additional power during maneuvers or acceleration.
Benetti reports a 30% reduction in energy consumption compared to a yacht of comparable size. This figure is based on the entire energy ecosystem developed around the propulsion system, not just the engines.
The integration of this architecture also helps reduce the space occupied by the engine room. The space freed up as a result directly benefits the guest areas at the rear of the yacht.
Architecture Inspired by Sailing Ships
The exterior design is by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, a firm best known for its large sailing yachts. This influence is evident in the boat's overall proportions.
The profile is deliberately low-slung, with taut lines and a restrained freeboard designed to make the yacht appear closer to the water?s surface. The relatively low bulwarks and large glass surfaces are intended to maintain constant contact with the marine environment, both from the interior spaces and from the outdoor decks.
With a gross tonnage of 296 GT, the architects say they prioritized making the most of the available space rather than creating numerous partitioned areas.
An internal structure focused on family life
The interior designs created by FM Architettura differ from the more traditional layouts found on large yachts.
At the stern, the deck area with the pool opens directly onto a 2.40-meter-high, fully glass-enclosed Sea Atrium. This space serves as the transition between the cockpit and the interior accommodations.
The Family Kitchen becomes the main gathering place. Open to the common areas, it allows for shared meals in a setting similar to that of a home on Earth. However, a sliding glass partition allows the kitchen to be separated during more formal gatherings.
Another distinctive feature is that the wheelhouse is located at the forward end of the main deck. This layout frees up the entire upper deck to create a private owner?s suite with a 270-degree panoramic view?a configuration typically reserved for yachts that are significantly longer.
Yacht Management Is Becoming Increasingly Connected
The B.Neos also features several digital solutions designed to streamline its operation.
Connectivity relies on 5G and Starlink networks to maintain a constant connection with the shipyard. The yacht's technical data is transmitted in real time to enable remote monitoring.
Benetti has also announced the use of augmented reality. Using smart glasses or tablets, crews have access to visual assistance during maintenance operations. The shipyard?s technical teams can intervene remotely to help diagnose or resolve a problem.
Services that extend the yacht's delivery
In addition to the yacht itself, Benetti offers a range of services for the B.Neos under the Peace of Mind program.
This package includes an extended warranty, remote technical support, preventive maintenance, and specialized training for crews on hybrid systems and stabilization devices.
The shipyard also offers interior design and outfitting services provided by Yachtique, ranging from onboard linens to everyday accessories.
All of this is bundled into a package called ?Yacht as a Service,? which combines the yacht and operational services into a comprehensive solution offered over a five-year period. This approach reflects a shift in the luxury yacht market, where builders now seek to support their customers well beyond the delivery of their vessel.
