Boris Herrmann vs. Tony Stark: The German skipper outdoes Iron Man in launching Malizia 4

To unveil his new IMOCA, Boris Herrmann didn't opt for a technical video or a simple launch ceremony. Instead, the German skipper and Team Malizia decided to pay homage to Marvel movies, with a video that?s full of nods to Tony Stark and his Iron Man suit.

The video marks the launch of Malizia 4, which was launched in Lorient on July 6, 2026, after two years of design and construction. The video follows Boris Herrmann in a futuristic workshop where the boat?s various components gradually come into view, like pieces of high-tech armor assembling around their owner.

The parallels with the Iron Man universe are evident in everything from the visual effects and lighting to the soundtrack, without ever losing sight of the film?s true hero: the new 60-foot IMOCA. The sequence concludes with a full view of Malizia 4, sporting its new black-and-red livery.

This announcement stands in stark contrast to the launch videos typically produced by offshore racing teams. It marks the arrival of a boat designed for Team Malizia?s upcoming major events, with its sights set on The Ocean Race 2027, the Route du Rhum 2026, and then the Vendée Globe 2028. The new IMOCA is the result of two years of development and more than 85,000 hours of work involving over 150 people.
