In Concarneau, seafaring professions are not taught in books, but on decks, in workshops and facing the wind. The Institut Nautique de Bretagne (INB) invites the general public to come and discover its training courses at two open days, on friday, february 6, 2026 from 2pm to 8pm and saturday, February 7, 9am to 4pm.
These events are aimed at a wide audience: high school students, university students, adults undergoing retraining and the simply curious. The aim is clear: to give everyone a concrete idea of what it would be like to work in a yachting or marine maintenance profession.
On deck: visits, meetings and discussions on the future
During these days, INB opens up its entire infrastructure. Visitors will be able to move freely around the technical workshops, watch demonstrations, handle equipment and, above all, talk to trainers and trainees. All in a realistic, unvarnished setting.
Training aids are also available: RIBs, sailboats, inboard and outboard engines, onboard electronics... all concrete ways to visualize the daily life of a future nautical technician, skipper or préparateur.
The teaching teams will also be on hand to present their training courses, from bac pro to professional qualification, including sandwich courses and specialized modules. Job opportunities will be clearly presented: maintenance, sales, port management, nautical management, etc.
A course of study for all ages, as long as you like concrete work
INB doesn't just target high school leavers. The school also welcomes adults undergoing retraining, who may not have been involved in the maritime world from the outset, but who want to learn a manual, technical or nautical trade. It's often during a visit like this one that things click.
As the teaching team reminds us, choosing a course isn't just about filling in an application or looking for a diploma, it's also about recognizing yourself in an atmosphere, a team, a profession.
Parents are also welcome. They can ask questions about accommodation, pace, internships, work-study programs or job placement rates. As for prescribers, guidance counsellors or integration structures, they will find this a good opportunity to better understand the realities of this sector.
A clearer vision for a real choice
Each visitor will leave with a concrete vision of the profession, training courses and entry requirements. And, above all, with the opportunity to find out whether they really see themselves in this type of professional environment.
And even if not everything is decided in a day, these open doors can mark a turning point. In many cases, it's on site, in contact with the teams, that things become clearer. The aim is not to convince at all costs, but to enable everyone to make an informed and realistic choice.
