Mariquita wins the Hoalen Brest Douarnenez Classic
The Hoalen Brest Douarnenez Classic came to an end on August 29 after 5 days of racing between the two Breton towns. The nine crews involved waited over 4 hours before starting the first of the day's 2 races. The 118 crews were able to express themselves on coastal and technical courses and runs. Mariquita, a 19 M IR built by William Fife in 1911, skippered by Jacques Caraës, won the race.
Loïs Berrehar wins the first leg of the Solitaire du Figaro
The Grand Départ of the 55th edition of La Solitaire du Figaro Paprec was given on Sunday August 25 at 3pm in the Bay of Seine for the 37 sailors taking part in the race, including 16 rookies and four foreigners. On the menu: a 615-nautical-mile leg to Gijón (Spain) via Wolf Rock. The eight duos entered in the Paprec Challenge crossed the start line at 3:30pm. They sailed the same course as the Solitaire du Figaro Paprec competitors on the first leg, and benefit from a specific ranking.
Loïs Berrehar (Skipper Macif 2022) crossed the finish line in 1st place this Thursday at 12 h 58m 21s (French time) at Gijón (Spain) . He will have put 3 days 21 hours 58 min and 21 seconds to complete the first stage. Basile Bourgnon (Edenred) crossed the finish line in second place, 1 minute and 1 second after Loïs Berrehar. Jules Ducelier (Région Normandie) crossed the finish line in third place and first rookie 1 minute and 35 seconds after Loïs Berrehar. In other words, this first leg was a tight affair. Finally, Hugo Le Clech and Arthur Meurisse (Skippers MIEUX) crossed the finish line in 1st place in the first edition of the Paprec Challenge.
Emirates Team New Zealand wins Louis Vuitton Cup preliminary race
At the end of a thrilling finish with Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, a real high-level match-racing event with the best helmsmen from both teams, Emirates Team New Zealand won before the real start of the Louis Vuitton Cup on August 29. This event did not count towards the America's Cup points ranking, but rather served as a friendly prologue.
New champions at the French Youth Windfoil & Raceboard Championships
August 25 marked the conclusion of the French Windfoil and Raceboard Championship, which took place over six intense days from August 20 to 25. During the week, participants had to cope with changing wind conditions. In the Raceboard Techno 293 class, Ilann Prigent Bihan from CN Plouguerneau took the lead, and Charline Quercy from CNBPP won the girls' title, having shown great consistency. In the Techno Plus class - where the sail is larger - Swane Tarcy from Charente won the title after a series of victories throughout the week. In the boys' category, it was a foregone conclusion for Arthis Espagon of CN Couardais, who took the title, followed by Jean de Kerros and Yannis Martin, who took 2nd place just 1 point behind.
In the U17 Windfoil category, Vosgienne Salomé Simon won with flying colors, demonstrating her mastery in all conditions. In the boys' category, Marius Polo of the Yacht Club de la Pointe Rouge won the championship with 9 of the 12 races. In the U19 category, Zoé Feuerstein dominated the Championship, winning all the races hands down, despite having been upgraded from U17 to U19 for the Championship. The boys' title went to Lucas Gadeyne of OGS Voile, 20 points ahead of the runner-up.
