Baglietto XO, a new Explorer range for observing the environment

To celebrate its 170th anniversary, the Italian manufacturer Baglietto launches the XO range, whose motto is to explore, experiment and observe. The first 50 m model, the XO 50, features an observatory offering a 360° view of the landscape on transoceanic crossings.

Explore, Experiment, Observe

Italian shipbuilder Baglietto, which celebrates its 170th anniversary in 2024, launches the new XO range. It is dedicated to vessels designed for long ocean crossings, the Explorers. The baseline "Explore, Experience, Observe" is the characteristic that gave the range its name. In addition to long voyages, the crucial point of the models is an unobstructed panoramic view. The first model, the XO 50, is a 49.90 m long yacht with a high-strength steel hull and aluminum superstructure. The design was entrusted to Francesco Paszkowski Design.

An observation zone, a distinctive feature of the project

The distinctive feature of the project is the observation area above the wheelhouse, offering a comprehensive view of the surrounding landscape. This observatory was designed to become an entertainment space, breaking the monotony of long crossings. Large flush-mounted windows offer a 360° view, while the central skylight lets in light day and night.

Inside is a "visual room", a protected, cocooning space furnished with cushions and comfortable sofas for retreating to the shade. Opposite the lounge area, 6 large independent monitors have been installed, which can also be used separately. Each screen can be used to watch something different, together or separately, using headphones. Like the screens installed on aircraft, each passenger can choose to watch a film, listen to music or discover the route taken on digital maps. A drone can also project navigation images onto these screens.

A concept inspired by a revolutionary Italian train from the 1950s

The birth of the XO range was inspired by a parallel universe, that of the railways, and more specifically by the ETR 300 concept. Also known as the Settebello, this railway rolling stock revolutionized the concept of trains in Italy in the 1950s.

The XO range incorporates innovative design solutions from this historic train: the pilot station above the passenger area, and a panoramic first-class lounge below. Baglietto reinterprets them by keeping the pilot station on the upper deck and creating an area entirely dedicated to guests on the roof.

A typical Explorer look designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design

The design of this first model contrasts with the sober, flowing lines of all the brand's Paszkowski-designed yachts. But it retains the "workboat" aesthetic typical of an Explorer, without detracting from its elegance.

The minimalist flybridge, with its flush glass surfaces, offers a 360° view, while the upper deck is inspired by the concept of a veranda opening on three sides. This element is inspired by the T52 model, as is the main deck, which is based on the same design.

Design solutions based on T52 experience

Still based on the experience gained from the T52, the X50's hull has been designed to undertake transoceanic crossings. The bow is more robust and sharper to ensure easier and faster maneuvering by the crew, even in extreme weather conditions. Safety is also a guiding factor in the choice of generous storage space for the large tenders, adapted to cruising in rough and difficult seas.

A huge, customizable rear area

The aft cockpit is a huge space open to the outside, with a few symmetrical side steps leading to the bathing platform. Two glass doors lead to a multi-purpose area including a gym and ample storage space for outdoor furniture, tenders, bicycles...

This new range comes in a wide range of possible configurations, particularly for the aft area. This can accommodate two large 10 m tenders, and can also be customized in color.

A more virtuous approach and limited speed

In a move to protect the environment, the shipyard has chosen to use more environmentally-friendly ceramic materials. Solar panels on the flybridge recharge the water toys, and the paints used are also more environmentally friendly.

The yachts in the range are powered by two CAT C32 engines, delivering a maximum speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. 9 crew members can be accommodated on board to ensure the comfort and safety of the 12 guests.
