Imarinair, an ecological catamaran project for research and pollution control

Imarinair unveils its ambitious project for a multi-purpose catamaran designed for oceanographic research and marine pollution control. The 24-meter vessel will be powered by sail and hybrid (electric/thermal) engines. Launch is scheduled for late 2026. As part of its commitment to the environment, it will also be an awareness-raising center for all ages.

Imarinair, an association committed to protecting the oceans, announces the construction of a catamaran dedicated to a variety of environmental missions. The vessel will be used for waste collection, scientific research and climate awareness. Scheduled to sail 300 days a year, the boat is intended to be a milestone in the fight against marine pollution.

Catamaran missions and capabilities

Imarinair's catamaran, designed to ensure both stability in rough seas and energy efficiency, will feature a screw propulsion system complemented by a hybrid engine. It will feature state-of-the-art equipment such as a research laboratory, professional diving equipment and marine waste collection and storage facilities. The boat's modular spaces will host awareness-raising workshops and research campaigns, providing an ideal platform for Imarinair's varied missions.

With a length of 24 meters, the catamaran will be a true workboat, powered by diesel engines and equipped with a hybrid (electric/thermal) motorization system for work areas. Designed to keep environmental impact to a minimum, the vessel's design incorporates the use of renewable energies and low-tech wherever possible. In return, the crew will take advantage of process improvements to ensure they have the best technological equipment to meet the needs of their missions.

Educational programs and activities

At the heart of its activities, Imarinair is committed to raising public awareness of environmental issues. The program includes educational outings for schools and seminars for adults, combining sailing and scientific discovery. With the aim of reaching 2,400 children and 1,500 adults each year, the catamaran will be a crucial tool in promoting a better understanding of marine ecosystems and the importance of preserving them.

Financing and outlook

Construction of the catamaran is estimated at 3 million euros, with financing phases spread out until 2026. Imarinair has also planned an annual operating budget of 1.3 million euros, covering all aspects of the vessel's use. Funding will come from a combination of sponsorship, eco-volunteering and multi-year target agreements, ensuring a solid financial base for the project.
