The U.S State Department just issued a travel warning for the Bahamas and for the boating activities because of rising crime rates.

If you're planning to visit the Bahamas in the next few weeks, you'd better take precautions. The U.S. State Department has just issued a travel advisory for three popular destinations: Saudi Arabia, Jamaica and the Bahamas. While the first two are not entirely surprising, the warning concerning the Bahamas is more unusual.

This warning is based on the significant increase in crime in the Caribbean archipelago. Indeed, 18 murders have already been committed in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas, since January 1, 2024. An increase in violence due to gang activity.

A warning for nautical activities

The U.S. State Department therefore recommends extreme caution in Nassau and the eastern part of the island of New Providence. A warning has also been issued concerning water sports activities, given that many professionals in this field are not certified and operate despite safety regulations. Finally, there has also been an upsurge in shark attacks, making swimming and boating activities dangerous.
